Purchasing power parity

There can be considerable differences in price levels between countries. This means that a euro may have more  purchasing power in one country than in another. In order to compare the prosperity of inhabitants of the various countries we need to be able to adjust such price differences. The purchasing power parity helps to eliminate international price differences. In Europe it is Eurostat that calculates the purchasing power parity in close cooperation with the OECD. All member states contribute to the programme.
