Geographical distribution GP practices

The average number of GP practices within a fixed distance from the residential population in that area. If the GP practice rate is high in a particular area, the people living in that area have more freedom of choice. People prefer their GP to live nearby in the same town or village. A distance of 3 km is assumed to be acceptable.

Early 2007, there were more than 4,300 GP practices in the Netherlands. Information on GP practices is based on data collected, analysed and published by the NIVEL (Netherlands Institute for Health Service Research).
