More traffic noise, less stench

In the period 1997-2008, the proportion of people reporting to be disturbed by road and rail traffic noise rose from 27 to 31and from 5 to 7 percent respectively. The number of people being disturbed by aircraft noise, however, was reduced from 19 to 16 percent.
 
In 2008, the inconvenience caused by stench in urban environments diminished relative to 1997. Stench caused by traffic decreased from 8 to 5 percent, stench from industrial activities from 11 to 6 percent and stench from agricultural production from 14 to 9 percent. Stench from open fireplaces remained fairly stable at a level of approximately 11 percent.
