Decline in number of Turkish and Moroccan immigration brides continues

In 2007, well over 26 thousand people with a foreign background got married. Approximately one quarter had a Turkish or Moroccan background. Over 80 percent of Turks and Moroccans who married last year choose a partner with the same ethnic background. Only 9 percent of them married persons with a native Dutch background.

Part of the marriages within the same ethnic group are migration marriages. About 20 percent of Turkish and 15 percent of Moroccan people who got married, fetched their partners from Turkey or Morocco. The downward trend in migration marriages which emerged in recent years thus continues.
