Feelings of insecurity in public transport

Figures on feelings of insecurity are based on the National Safety Monitor, a survey conducted by Statistics Netherlands, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Kingdom Relations and the Ministry of Justice. The survey is conducted annually in the first quarter among the population aged 15 years and older. Persons living in homes and institutions are excluded from the survey.

As they are based on a sample survey, the percentages presented in this article have a margin of error.

In the Safety Monitor, the following question is asked:
“Do you sometimes refrain from travelling by public transport, because you do not feel safe?”

Possible answers:
• Yes, often
• Yes, sometimes
• No
• Not applicable, I never use public transport

The percentages in this article solely refer to persons who did not answer this question with ‘Not applicable’, i.e. those who occasionally use public transport facilities.
