Traffic nuisance

Figures on traffic nuisance are based on the government’s security monitor 2007, a survey conducted by Statistics Netherlands and the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations and the ministry of Justice. The survey was held from mid-January to mid March 2007among people aged fifteen years and older, excluding the institutionalised population. The percentages presented are subject to margins of error, as they are based a sample.

The security monitor asks:
‘I’m going to mention a number of annoying incidents and offences which may occur in your neighbourhood. Could you tell me whether – in your view - the incidents and offences occur often, sometimes, hardly ever, or never?’ This question is followed by a list of items. The items concerning traffic nuisance are formulated as follows:
- Aggressive traffic behaviour;
- Noise nuisance from traffic;
- Speeding;
- Accidents.

In this article, an item constitutes a nuisance if a respondent answers that it occurs often.
