Spending

In this article spending is standardised spending: to make it possible to compare the figures spending is standardised in terms of household size and composition.

Spending by households consists of the value of goods and services purchased by households (total purchase price) in the Netherlands or abroad, in order to satisfy individual needs or wishes (non-productive purposes). It also includes consumption- related transfers to government and non-profit institutions.

Mortgage payments and the purchase of a home are not included in spending. Instead of these payments, the gross rent value of the home is imputed to owner-occupiers. This is the rent that these owners would have to pay if they rented they house.
