Renewable electricity

Total generation of renewable energy in 2006 was approximately twice the amount of energy generated by the nuclear power reactor at Borssele.
The Dutch government aims to generate 6 percent of total electricity consumption in the Netherlands from renewable sources. The objectives for 2010 and 2020 are set at 9 and 17 percent respectively.

The Netherlands has also committed itself to the 2010 objective in the framework of the European Union (Protocol Monitoring Renewable Energy, SenterNovem 2004). According to the Protocol, imports only count, if the exporting country explicitly consents. So far, no agreements have been made.
