Combined heat and power (CHP) systems

A combined heat and power (CHP) system produces thermal energy – as a by-product of electrical energy (power) – which can be used effectively. Heat generated in CHP units usually has a high temperature (steam, hot water) and can be used for other purposes (e.g. as process heat in manufacturing industry, in central heating systems for houses and buildings and district heating systems). CHP units are highly energy-efficient.
