Big cities

In this article, the four Dutch metropolitan areas are briefly referred to by the name of the largest municipality in that area.

“Utrecht” covers the urban district of Utrecht including the municipalities of Bunnik, De Bilt, Houten, IJsselstein, Maarssen, Nieuwegein, Utrecht, Vianen and Zeist.

“Amsterdam” covers the urban district of Greater Amsterdam including the municipalities of Aalsmeer, Amstelveen, Amsterdam, Beemster, Diemen, Edam-Volendam, Graft-De Rijp, Haarlemmermeer, Landsmeer, Oostzaan, Ouder-Amstel, Purmerend, Uithoorn, Waterland and Zeevang.

“Then Hague” covers the agglomeration The Hague including the municipalities of Leidschendam-Voorburg, Pijnacker-Nootdorp, Rijswijk, The Hague, Wassenaar and Zoetermeer.

“Rotterdam” covers the Rijnmond area including the muinicipalities of Albrandswaard, Barendrecht, Bergschenhoek, Berkel en Rodenrijs, Bernisse, Bleiswijk, Brielle, Capelle aan den IJssel, Hellevoetsluis, Krimpen aan den IJssel, Maassluis, Ridderkerk, Rotterdam, Rozenburg, Schiedam, Spijkenisse, Vlaardingen and Westvoorne.
