Survey of end-of-life decision-making

The purpose of this survey is to provide an accurate statistical description of end-of-life decision-making by medical practitioners. To this end, a sample was drawn from cause of death certificates of people who died in the Netherlands in the period August to November 2005.
Statistics Netherlands carried out the survey in collaboration with the Erasmus University Hospital in Rotterdam, and the Free University Hospital in Amsterdam at the request of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport. The survey constitutes part of the evaluation of Dutch legislation concerning euthanasia and assistance with suicide.
