Most single-parent families on income support female-headed

At the end of last year, 89 thousand income support benefits were received by single-parent families. In 97 percent of cases, the recipient was a woman.
Nearly 8 out of 10 single-parent families had one or two children. In more than half of cases, male income support recipients in single-parent families had one child.
In 34 percent of single-parent families on income support, the youngest child is under the age of five and in 29 percent the youngest child is in the 5-10 age bracket. In single-parent families consisting of a mother with one or more children, the youngest child is mostly under the age of ten. In single-parent male-headed families, it is more equally spread up to the age of 20.
