Degree of urbanisation

The surrounding address density of a neighbourhood, district or municipality is the average number of addresses per square km within a radius of one kilometre on 1 January of the year concerned.

Based on the surrounding address density per square km, the following five degrees of urbanisation are distinguished:

  1. Extremely urbanised: 2,500 surrounding addresses or more
  2. Strongly urbanised: 1,500 to 2,500 surrounding addresses
  3. Moderately urbanised: 1,000 to 1,500 surrounding addresses
  4. Hardly urbanised: 500 to 1,000 surrounding addresses
  5. Not urbanised: fewer than 500 surrounding addresses
