Violent offences

These include: rape, indecent assault, other sexual offences, threatening behaviour, attempted manslaughter/murder, physical abuse, culpable homicide/physical injury, aggravated theft and extortion.
The dismissals on grounds of non-likelihood of conviction in 2005 were mainly for reasons concerning the suspect (41 percent): changed  circumstances, the suspect’s health was an impediment, probation considerations played a role or the suspect had already been so affected by the offence or its consequences that a trial was no longer necessary.

By far most of the technical dismissals (85 percent) were because of evidence problems. In some cases a suspect had been wrongfully charged or the Public Prosecutor was inadmissible (both accounted for about 6 percent of the total number of dismissals on technical grounds).
