Consumer confidence in October 2006 did not change compared to September. Willingness to purchase and opinions about the economic climate barely changed. Consumers remained positive. The optimists outnumbered the pessimists according to the latest figures by Statistics Netherlands.
Consumers have faith in economic developments
Consumers have never been as positive about the economic climate for the next twelve months as they were in October. Their opinions improved even further and have reached the highest value (seasonally corrected) since the start of the series in 1986. There was little change in the opinions about the economy in the last twelve months. On balance the opinions about the economic climate hardly changed.
Willingness to purchase virtually unchanged
The willingness of consumers to buy did not change in October, but the underlying indicators did. Consumers considered this a good time for major purchases. They were less positive about their own financial situation.
