Fewer people unemployed

The seasonally adjusted unemployment figure in the period May-July is 406 thousand, about the same as in the period April-June 2006. Unemployment perceived over a longer period of time is falling. In the period May-July 2006 some 5.5 percent of the labour force was unemployed.

Due to the downward trend in unemployment, the number of unemployed people in the period May-July 2006 was 82 thousand lower than a year before.

Unemployment rate decreased sharpest among males in the 15-24 age group. Only the unemployment rate of women aged 45-64 remained the same.
