Turnover of hotels, restaurants and cafés up 6%

In 2000 the turnover in the hotel and restaurant sector was up 5.6% on 1999. Hotels - including boarding houses and conference centres - had a specially good year, with a 9% turnover increase.

Comparatively speaking cafeterias and snack bars did not do as well. In this group, which includes lunch rooms, and fast-food outlets, turnover rose by only 3.7% last year.

The increase in turnover of restaurants, pubs and bars in 2000 were in between the two above-mentioned groups. Restaurants increased their turnover by 5.1%, while takings in bars and pubs rose by 4.7%.
