Table description
This table contains information about students who participate in secondary vocational education, MBO (‘middelbaar beroepsonderwijs’) in particular, on the islands of the Caribbean Netherlands. Only education that is funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science is included in the tables. The numbers of students are given by region (Bonaire, St Eustatius and Saba), by level (MBO-1,MBO-2, MBO-3, MBO-4) and by fields of education (‘sector’ and ‘domain’). Students in Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ), a Caribbean education system that was introduced in school year 2019/’20 on St Eustatius and Saba, are not included in the figures. On account of the introduction of the CVQ-system, there are no longer MBO students from school year 2021/’22 on St Eustatius and Saba.
As of 10 October 2010, the islands of Bonaire, St Eustatius and Saba have held the status of ‘special municipalities’ of the Netherlands. The education in the Caribbean Netherlands forms part of the Dutch national education system. The Dutch Minister of Education, Culture and Science is responsible for education policies.

When will new figures be published?
In the first quarter of 2023, the revised provisional figures over school year 2021/'22 and the provisional figures over school year 2022/'23 will come available.
The figures over school year 2020/'21 will become final.

- Until the 2019/’20 school year government funded secondary vocational education on the islands of the Caribbean Netherlands consisted entirely of ‘middelbaar beroepsonderwijs (MBO)’, similar to the European part of the Netherlands. The courses offered at this level were limited in scale (St Eustatius and Saba in particular). As of 2012/’13, St Eustatius and Saba only offer the assistant/entrance training (level 1) and level 2 of MBO. Bonaire already had publicly funded MBO at all four levels.
