Table description
This table contains key data on the vehicle fleet of passenger cars, motorcycles and commercial vehicles (by vehicle category) and by age class of the vehicle.
The figures are based on the registration numbers provided by the Dutch Road Traffic Authority (RDW). All vehicles registered on 1 January of each year have been counted, the data are recorded and stored and the register can be accessed for statistical purposes.
As from 2004, the total count of vehicles is not fully comparable with previous years due to separate registration of trailers and semi-trailers.
The figures in this table have been calculated using the selection method of the previous years, which means that the data on 1 January 2022 are comparable with the data of previous years.
In Q2 of this year a new Statline table with figures of the vehicle fleet will be published, and that table will be based on an adapted selection method (which will be used in future calculations). That new table will contain the figures of 4 time points: January 1, 2019; January 1, 2020; January 1, 2021; and January 1, 2022. Together with this Statline table in the ‘new format’, a methodological report will be published to explain and quantify the differences between the selection method that was previously used and the new selection method.
Data available from: 2000
Status of the figures: final
