Under the Alders Platform covenants, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol must adhere to an annual ceiling of 500 thousand aircraft movements (take-offs and landings) until 2020. This concerns the number of movements in commercial aviation. The Alders Platform covenants (2008) are a unanimously endorsed package of agreements among all parties involved (aviation sector, governments and local residents) to reorient the uncontrolled (commercially driven) growth of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol towards ‘development in balance with the environment’. The contents of the covenants were adjusted in 2012 and in 2015.
