How large is Schiphol from a European perspective?

In terms of passenger numbers, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is the third largest airport in the European Union. It is therefore a major European hub, after London Heathrow and Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, but before Frankfurt Airport.

In 2016, Schiphol handled 63.5 million arriving and departing air passengers. In the same year, Heathrow and Charles de Gaulle handled 75.8 million and 66.0 million passengers respectively.

The fastest-growing airport in the European Union in 2016 was Barcelona El Prat: 11 percent more passengers than in 2015. Second in line was Schiphol with a growth rate exceeding 9 percent.
