Refers to medication prescribed to Dutch residents in the year of report and included in the compulsory basic health insurance package in the report year. Medication administered to patients during hospital admissions (hospital care) and to nursing-home residents under the Exceptional Medical Expenses Act (AWBZ) are not included, but medicines administered to care-home residents are included.
Data on medication are provided by the Health Care Insurance Board (CVZ).  This registration was set up in 2006 and is used for risk rating. Health insurance companies are compensated in proportion to the number of insured patients.
