Means of transport

Merchant fleet

Data about the merchant fleet come from the register of ships’ data of the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management. The information is broken down by type, tonnage and vintage.

Inland fleet

Data about the inland fleet come from the Centrale Registratie Binnenschepen. If an inland vessel has actually carried out transports in a given calendar year it is considered part of the active inland fleet. Inland vessels are broken down by type, tonnage, engine power and vintage. There is also data on entrepreneurs and activities.

Motor vehicles

The data on motor vehicles include information about cars, commercial vehicles, and motorbikes. The basic data come from the register of vehicle licenses of the RDW. The breakdown into type of vehicle and other characteristics, e.g. technical and geographic, is based on information provided on the vehicle registration.

Besides information about the total number of motor vehicles there are also data about car and motor sales. Data on the sales of new cars and motors come from the RAI Data Centrum; data about the sales of second-hand cars come from the changes in the vehicle registration of the RDW.

Aviation

Information about the Dutch air fleet comes from the Dutch aviation register (LVR file). The data are broken down by type of aircraft.
