In March 2013, Statistics Netherlands switched to publishing PPI index series with reference year 2010=100. This document gives information on this base year revision.

As of January 2008, Statistics Netherlands and the Dutch Land Registry office (Kadaster) jointly publish the House Price Index for existing own homes with reference year 2005=100. At the start of 2013, the reference year of the House Price Index for existing own homes will be changed to 2010 (2010=100).

Statistics Netherlands calculates the monthly input index of building costs for new dwellings to monitor developments in the price level of new dwellings in the Netherlands. Starting with the figures of January 2009, the input index is published with 2005 as new base year.

Statistics Netherlands calculates a quarterly output price index of newly built dwellings (OutputPrijsIndex van NieuwbouwWoningen, O-PINW) to monitor developments in the prices of newly built dwellings in the Netherlands. Starting from the figures for the first quarter of 2009, the O-PINW is published with 2005 as the new reference year (2005=100).

From the first quarter of 2011, the price indexes for GWW will be published based on a new reference year: 2005.

As of January 2012 Statistics Netherlands (CBS) introduced in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) new methods for the observation of prices for airline tickets and for package holidays. In both product groups the seasonal patterns of published results change. In some months these changes have significant impacts on the indices.

In January 2010 Statistics Netherlands has introduced a new method for computing price indexes based on scanner data in the CPI. At the same time the number of data providers was expanded from one supermarket chain to six chains. This paper describes the new method, including the index number formulae, and the scanner data used. Some results are also presented and compared with index numbers computed using a recently proposed ‘benchmark’ method.
