More trade between Poland and the Netherlands

The trading relationship between Poland and the Netherlands is becoming more and more important. Poland is by far the most important trading partner for the Netherlands of all the countries which have joined the European Union in the past decade.

Trade surplus substantially up

The value of imports from and exports to Poland mounted to 5.5 and 9.2 billion euros respectively in 2013, resulting in a trade surplus of 3.7 billion euros. Over the period 2003-2013, the trade surplus with Poland has more than trebled.

Important trading partner

In the first three months of 2014, trade with Poland was as busy as in the same period last year. The trade between Poland and the Netherlands accounts for three percent of total trade within the EU. Within the EU, Poland is Holland’s eighth largest trading partner. 

The number of Dutch companies with business interests in Poland is growing continually. With 5.5 thousand and 3 thousand respectively, exporters easily outnumbered importers in 2013. Wholesale companies account for the bulk of trade with Poland.

Machinery and transport equipment

Exports from Poland to the Netherlands and vice versa cover a wide range of products. The trade mainly consists of high-tech products and components. The countries in Eastern Europe are an important market for used cars. The market for Dutch cars and lorries is bustling.
