Dutch consumers more pessimistic about the future

The mood among Dutch consumers deteriorated in November. The consumer  confidence indicator dropped 5 by points to -37. Consumers were much more apprehensive about the economic situation in the future and their own financial situation in the future.

Consumers were far more cautious about the economic climate in the next twelve months. Opinions on the economic situation in the past twelve months also deteriorated, but by less. The component indicator economic climate dropped 12 points and reached -56.

Consumers were also far more pessimistic about their own financial situation than in October. This indicator fell by 12 points to reach -32, which is the lowest level ever observed. Consumers’ opinions on their own financial situation in the past twelve months improved, on the other hand. They also thought the time was less unfavourable to buy expensive items, like furniture, washing machines or TV sets. As a result, willingness-to-buy hardly changed. The component indicator dropped by 1 point to -25.
