16-12-2010Press release Dutch retailers faced 1.7 percent turnover loss in October 2010 from October 2009. Retail prices were 1.3 percent higher, volume shrank by 3.0 percent.

26-08-2010Press release In the second quarter of 2010, the sector hotels and restaurants performed better than in the preceding five quarters. Sales dropped by 3.1 percent relative to the second quarter of 2009 and turnover volume dropped by 5.1 percent. The average price increase on one year previously was 2.1 percent.

The decline is in the same order of magnitude as in 2009. The price increase averaged 2 percent. The volume of sales over the first quarter was 7.6 percent down on one year previously.

Sales dropped most dramatically in December (63 percent) due to a change in tax regulations to the effect that, since 1 January 2009, tax deduction for glasses and contact lenses was no longer possible.

Such a dramatic downturn has not been recorded since monitoring of the sector was started in 1993.  As prices were raised by an average of 2.2 percent, turnover declined by 5.3 percent in 2009.
