Fewer women on the pill

The number of Dutch women using the contraceptive pill has fallen steadily since the beginning of 2000. In 2006, 37 percent of women aged between 16 and 49 years were on the pill. In 2000 this was 43 percent.
Fewer women in the age group 30 to 39 years in particular used the contraceptive pill: the share dropped from 42 percent in 2000 to 32 percent in 2006. A small decrease can also be observed in the age group 20-29 years, although the pill remains a popular method of contraception in this group: nearly 60 percent use the pill. Nearly half of the youngest women (16-19 years) are on the pill.
