Renewable energy
In addition to renewable sources such as wind, hydropower and solar power, this category of energy also includes energy from heat pumps and energy from waste, i.e. heat produced by incineration of waste, combustion of wood and gas produced by fermentation of organic material.
Explanation:
Also sustainable energy is often used to define energy from wind, hydro power, the sun, the earth, aerothermal heat and biomass. The concept sustainable is also used in a broader context, referring to social and economic factors. Apart from that there is also discussion about the sustainability of using certain forms of biomass. The concept of sustainable therfeore is not unambigious. Therefore, from July 2010 on-wards Statistics Netherlands is using the concept renewable energy instead of sustainable energy.
